What is Hypnotherapy/Hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy is literally therapy whilst under hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation combined with a state of heightened awareness, that you allow yourself to enter. No drugs/tablets are used, just the sound of the human voice.
What does it feel like?
You will feel very pleasantly relaxed, both mentally and physically. You have been in hypnosis many times before. Its that day-dreaming like state, such as when you’re between awake and asleep. Many people enjoy this natural relaxed state and once you have learned how it feels, you can achieve this state yourself easily with practice. This is called self-hypnosis.
Could I be influenced to do anything against my will?
Absolutely not! In fact, you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state if any such thing were suggested to you. You remain completely in control and will be aware of everything that is happening. You can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time.
Is it like stage hypnosis?
Not at all. Stage hypnosis is for entertainment only. Most people are only aware of hypnosis from what they have seen on TV shows or movies. The common myth is that hypnosis is about mind control. The stage hypnotist relies upon careful selection of the participants who are willing to help him entertain the audience once upon stage and he relies upon choosing those who will help him put on a good show.
Can I speak whilst in hypnosis?
Yes and in many cases you will be encouraged to do so
How do I know I can be hypnotised?
Anyone can be hypnotised to one degree or another unless they are unwilling to do so or incapable of concentrating (perhaps due to mental infirmity or of a very young age). It is not necessary to be in a deep state for hypnotherapy to work. In fact, many hypnotherapists encourage light or medium states. If you are reading this and are willing, then it can be assumed that you can experience hypnosis.
Could I become ‘trapped’ in hypnosis?
No, it is impossible to become ‘trapped’. Even if something were to happen to the hypnotherapist during the session, you are completely aware of everything and can come out of hypnosis at will.
How many sessions will I need?
This will range depending upon the reason(s) for the hypnotherapy. Many issues can be dealt with in just one session. More deep-rooted issues can take up to 4 sessions.
